TheirCare

Before, After and Holiday Care @ St Mary's

Hello Friends and Families,

We just cannot believe that we have already reached Term 3. We are so excited to see all the fun that the second semester of the year brings.

Holiday Program – Time Warp

Over the course of the school holidays, at TheirCare children engaged with a two-week theme identified as ‘Time Warp’. During this time the children got up to some of the most amazing things!

July 1st – Golden Games

Day one of Holiday program started off the bat and the children got crafty making some paper ball garlands. It was amazing to see each child create something so personal to them. We then continued our fun as we made Time Capsules. Each child took their capsule home with the intention of opening it in one year!

July 2nd – Elephant Toothpaste

Have you ever wondered how to make Elephant Toothpaste? Today at TheirCare we made it in three different ways! The children were mesmerised by the ‘toothpaste’ and enjoyed watching it form in different colours. It is safe to say we have a few future scientists on our hand!

July 3rd – 3D Dino Marvels

On this day we set off to IMAX in Fitzroy to explore the Melbourne Museum and watch the 3D Dino Movie. For some children this was the first time they have ever seen a movie in 3D so it is safe to say they were very excited. We also got to explore the dinosaur exhibit however the children’s favourite exhibit was Mini Models.

July 4th – SuperPark Arena

We reached new heights today at SuperPark Arena. The children were so excited to engage in a range of activities. When we reflect on our time at the playground it is safe to say that the favourite activities were Virtual Soccer, Ninja Warrior Course and GoKarts.

July 5th – Rhythm Journey

After two busy days in a row many of the children were excited to have a quiet day at the service. On this day, we spent a lot of time dancing to music and playing different games with music such as musical statuses. The children then tested their creativity as they built their very own ‘TheirCare Tent’. It was lovely to see children from all different year levels come together to do this task.

July 8th – That’s Roar-Some

Creativity at the service reached a new height today. We were extremely lucky to have Matt from Supreme Incursions come to the service and run a Dino themed LEGO incursion. The children did lots of amazing things during this time, their favourite creation was ‘TheirCare Dino Land’ where they built dinosaurs a home to live in.

July 9th – Pass The Popcorn!

Today TheirCare was Cinema bound. We set off early on an excursion to see Inside Out 2! For many children this was their very first TheirCare excursion, so their excitement was buzzing. The movie was awesome, but I think the children’s favourite part of the day was getting cinema popcorn!

July 10th – Dreamtime Discoveries

In order to celebrate NAIDOC week, the children got crafty making some posters that represented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The inclusion of this day in our program gave us an opportunity to discuss their connection to country. The children also enjoyed playing a game of ‘Emu and the Jabiru’.

July 11th – Thrills On Wheels

Today majority of the students attending the service tried something they had never done before. This was Roller Skating! As a group we headed off to the Sunshine Roller Rink where the children had a lesson on how to roller skate. They then eagerly hoped into the rink and gave it a good go! It was lovely to see how the children encouraged one another on during this new activity!

July 12th – TC Olympics

We ended all our Time Warp fun by engaging in the TC Olympics. Students enjoyed participating in different games and running a relay race. We then ended the day watching the movie LEO. This is by far a favourite of the children and always brings a laugh into the room!

Sun Safety

Being in Term 3, we would like to reassure all parents and guardians that we closely monitor the Temperature and UV Rays before engaging in outdoor play and Hats are worn as required. Further to this we continue to ensure that sunscreen is always applied, if your child requires a specific sunscreen, please do not hesitate to let us know so that we can accommodate for this!

Many Thanks,

Swaye and Ellie
