Around the classrooms

Messages from all classrooms.

Foundation / Year 1

100 days of school, woohoo! On Friday (week 2) we celebrated our 100 days of school for 2024. Everyday students have been working together to keep track of how many days we have been at school through our classroom display, using a variety of Maths resources (eg: icy pole bundling sticks, counters & tens frames, number charts, etc.).

In these 100 days we have achieved lots from learning new things, meeting new people, trying new experiences and so much more! We celebrated through a craft (displayed in the hallway near the middle/senior classrooms), 100 themed Maths activities, fairy bread procedure writing, played bobs and statues and received a party bag.

Year 2

For the first few weeks of the term, the Year 2’s have been working on time in Maths. We have revised the days of the week and the months of the year. We have learnt lots about analog and digital time; what o’clock, half past and quarter past looks like on both an analog and digital clock. We also shared some tic toc biscuits whilst we were working in Maths today!

Year 3/4

Camp preparations are in full swing. This week the children enjoyed seeing some photos of the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement and their sleeping spaces. We will be following up with families on the information shared with us in the forms returned. We will keep you up to date with information as it comes to hand.

In this edition of the newsletter, we have invited the children to share their most enjoyable experiences and the aspects of their learning where they feel they are achieving success. It was remarkable to observe that their perspectives aligned.

  • We really like Inquiry because we get to learn about disabilities and kindness.
  • Art is a blast; I love working on Chinese art projects and creating our own Olympian designs.
  • Maths games, like 'From Here to There,' make learning fun and interesting.
  • In Digital Tech, I enjoy getting to choose our own projects, which helps us tell better stories on slides.
  • Getting ready for athletics has been exciting as we practice throwing, jumping, and running.
  • Phonics and decoding are useful for improving my reading and understanding of words, and I'm having a lot of fun learning about different sounds.

Year 5/6

We have been working on our ‘Care for Kids’ unit in Inquiry, where we've researched different aid agencies and how they provide assistance. Through this, we've learned about the differences between sanitation, malnutrition, poverty, and illiteracy. We have now begun a deeper investigation into an aid agency of our choice.

In Literacy, we have been studying ‘The Jabberwocky’. This text allows us to explore the use of nonsense words and portmanteaus in poetry. We're also delving into different forms of poetry, expanding our understanding and creativity.

In Maths, we've been focusing on all things measurement! We started the term learning about time and have now moved on to weight. Miss Eade’s class had fun predicting and measuring various items from the classroom, making learning both engaging and practical.

Enjoying the Sunshine

Miss Eade's class has been making the most of the wonderful sunshine during mindfulness time.
