Assembly

Next week we will be holding a Wells Assembly for students in Kindergarten to Year 2.  As The Farrall Centre is unavailable due to the TCE Art Exhibition the assembly will take place outside in the grounds and will commence at 2.15pm on Monday afternoon. We welcome families to attend. There will be no Walpole Assembly next week.

Morris Showcase Concert

Tuesday 21 November

The Friends’ School Music Department warmly invites parents and friends to the Morris Showcase Concert on Tuesday 21 November from 6.00-7.00pm in The Farrall Centre. Entry is free and all are welcome! The Morris Showcase is a celebration of some of the incredible musical ensembles we have in the Primary Years. Ensembles that will be performing at this concert include:  

  • Year 3 Strings
  • Morris Strings
  • Morris Majors (Years 3 and 4 Choir)
  • Morris Maestros (Years 5 and 6 Choir)
  • Morris Chamber Strings
  • Year 5 Band

Year 6 Camp

Thursday 23 November - Friday 24 November 

On Thursday 23 November, Year 6 will be attending an overnight camp at South Arm. This camp concludes their Outdoor Education program in the Primary Years, as well as focusing on spirituality, organisation and community. They will depart school on Thursday morning at 9.00am and return by 2.30pm on Friday 29 November. Students may be collected from the drive through on Friday from 2.40pm. Additional information about camp has been provided to parents through Operoo. If you have any questions please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Kinder - Year 2 Sports Day

Friday 24 November

The Kinder to Year 2 Sports Day will be held on Friday 24 November on the school's bottom green from 12.00pm - 1.30pm. Parents and families are welcome to attend. Children are to wear their sports uniform and ensure they have their hat and a water bottle for the event. A program has been emailed to parents. Any further questions, please contact Allyce Winton

Year 3 Excursion to the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA)

Thursday 23 November

As part of our unit Sharing the planet we are excited to announce a visit to MONA. We will travel by bus from school to MONA and return. MONA is hosting The Forest Congress the following week, so students will have the opportunity to learn more about the significance of old growth forests and the importance our leaders have in making a difference for the future of Tasmania and the world. Students will have the opportunity to record their thoughts answering the question “What is the value of a tree?’ and record this at the recording studio. Their thoughts will be played at the congress. 

 

Children will need their hat, water bottle, lunch and some snacks. We will take sunscreen but if your child has a certain one please pack this for your child to use. Children will pack ventolin or epipen in their bags. Please advise us beforehand if any other medications will be required by your child on the day.  If a parent would like to support this excursion, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Note that for all Friends’ School volunteer activities you will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form

Year 3 Excursion to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

Friday 24 November 

As part of our unit 'Sharing the planet’ students will visit the memorial plaques around Legacy Park and the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. We will walk from school to the Gardens via the Domain. Students will learn about the significance of the plaques and the trees on the Domain. In the Botanical Gardens children will use their mapping skills to visit significant trees and areas. We will visit Pete’s Patch and look at the vegetables growing and discover the importance of the site for Tasmania’s first people. We will leave school at 10.00am and return by 3.00pm.  Children will need their hat, water bottle, lunch and some snacks. We will take sunscreen but if your child has a certain one please pack this for your child to use. Children will pack ventolin or epipen in their bags. Prep Art Exhibition

Tuesday 28 November

We are very pleased to share with families an invitation to the Prep Art Exhibition 2023. The Exhibition will take place in The Farrall Centre on Tuesday 28 November from 2.15pm - 3.15pm, we hope you are able to join us.

Year 6 Places of Worship Excursions

Tuesday 28 November 

To enrich and deepen our inquiry into Who we are: beliefs and values, Year 6 will walk to the Hobart Synagogue and St David’s Cathedral on Tuesday 28 November.  Students can wear their sports uniform and are required to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and hat. No lunch orders on this day. Please apply adequate sunscreen before school and pack a raincoat as required. If a parent would like to support this excursion, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Note that for all Friends’ School volunteer activities you will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form

Year 2 Excursion to Waterworks Reserve

Wednesday 29 November

On Wednesday 29 November, Year 2 will be heading to Waterworks Reserve by bus with their class teachers and Outdoor Education Teacher, Lauren Stranger. Students will be exploring animal adaptations, primarily through the study of animal scatt. We will be returning back to school at the end of the school day. Students need to come dressed in their sports uniform, including a warm jacket, waterproof raincoat and sun hut. They should bring a big lunch and lots of snacks, and a full water bottle.  No lunch orders on this day. Please update student Operoo profiles before the excursion.

Year 1 Excursion to Fossil Cove and Tinderbox

Thursday 30 November

On Thursday 30 November, Year 1 will be embarking upon a Coastal Day to Fossil Cove and Tinderbox Reserve. Class teachers and Lauren Stranger, the Outdoor Education teacher, will accompany us on the excursion. This program provides students with the opportunity to search for, identify, ask questions and think about what fossils can tell us about the past. Students are required to wear their sports uniform and sturdy shoes suitable for walking a reasonable distance. They are also to bring a backpack containing: morning tea and lunch, rain jacket, water bottle, a warm jumper, sun hat and a change of socks. Personal medication should already be in the classroom at school and will be carried by the teachers. Please ensure your child’s Operoo profiles are up to date and sunscreen is applied before they arrive at school.

Year 2 Musical

Friday 1 December

Year 2 students will be performing ‘The Rock Pool!’ on Friday 1 December at 2.15pm. Everyone has been working hard to learn their lines, songs and actions and we can’t wait to share this with our Year 2 families and Morris classmates. The performance will be in The Farrall Centre. 

Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge

Friday 1 December

A reminder to those Year 5/6 students entered in the Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge that it is to be held on Friday 1 December at Bellerive Beach.
