School Council

It's been a symbolic year for Ringwood North with our Centenary and our fete. As well as raising over $20,00 for improvements to the school oval, the events created a meaningful connection opportunity for the larger school community.

Personally, the past two years as School Council President, I’ve been able to put what I have learnt in my federal and local government career into a volunteer role supporting the school's governance including:

  • Liaising with our local ward councillor regarding parking around the school and clearer communication with the school community.
  • Improving connections between the PFA and School Council.
  • Supporting the school’s Annual Implementation Plan that defines the outcomes, success indicators and activities for the 2024 year.
  • Advocacy meeting with new Member for Warrandyte Nicole Werner.
  • Supporting wider communication around voluntary parent payments.

You will soon be asked to support voluntary parent payments. As explained, the payments are voluntary, but they mean, if you can contribute, that our school can have the funding to go above and beyond in different areas. We are proud our previous parent payments have gone towards our student wellbeing officer to collaborate with teachers in supporting our children through the aftermath of COVID-19. Look out for more information about voluntary contributions in the 2024 class information nights, and in the next newsletter.

With many School Council members, including myself completing our terms early next year there will also be a call out for School Council nominations, including the President role.

What does being a school council member entail? Attending monthly meetings and one-off training. Ensuring and contributing to a well-run meeting, so to agenda, on time, relevant items for discussion, and signing off on financials, and strategic documents. It is basically having a governance eye over the school.

Council members are also able to pass on school community sentiment about different issues or areas, noting we do not have a role in operational matters.

Please reach out to any of the current school council members if this is an area where you feel your skills could be put to good use or if you have an item for consideration.
