We are getting closer to the end of the year and soon our students will be taking part in transition to their 2024 classes. This will include a statewide orientation day where students will meet their new teacher and classmates.
On Tuesday, December 12th, our students will come together, 9:00am - 10.45am, and engage in team building and learning activities to prepare them for their new 2024 classes. This will be the first of a few different activities students will be engaged in with their new classes and teacher.
When forming classes, the school goes through a rigorous process to ensure we can create the best learning environment for all our students. This begins with teachers asking all of our students to identify different people they would like in their class in 2024, to ensure each child feels connected within the class. Teachers and leaders then discuss the connections and possible combinations and place them into the classroom structures.
Year 6 students heading to secondary college will also be attending their 2024 school on this day. To support their transition, our 5/6 teachers have met with transition officers from each secondary school and discussed each student's transition to Year 7.
The change of class and teacher can sometimes be overwhelming for students during orientation and they may need additional support on the day. If you have any concerns, please email Gab Espenschied at principal@smhastings.catholic.edu.au.
Don't forget to support your child to engage in ongoing practice of the skills they are learning at school. Go to our home learning portal for ideas, or if you have any questions about your child’s home learning, please contact your child’s teacher.
