VOCABULARY

Underlying message:

The point of view or lesson the author wants us to learn from reading their text.

Themes:

An idea that flows through the text

I.e Environment, Family, Friendship, Persistence

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

When reading students to identify the underlying message and theme and record it in their homework book.

Example:

I infer that the theme is (insert)... because I read/saw…

Therefore, the underlying message is… because…
