All Things Hub

Springvale Rise Primary School Community Hub

All Things Hub

We’ve had lots of fun activities this week. The first being Diwali! We celebrated on the Heights campus with lots of delicious foods that our families brought in to share. The children drew fireworks with coloured chalk and our parents also found it very relaxing decorating Rangoli’s with colourful rice!

Secondly, we celebrated 10 years of Community Hubs in the City of Greater Dandenong.  Our school, along with four others; Dandenong Primary, Dandenong South, Dandenong West and St. Anthony’s came together at the brand-new Springvale Community Hub (formerly known as Springvale Library). Dr. Sonia Hood the CEO of Community Hubs Australia opened the event and mentioned how incredibly proud she was to witness all the incredible things all five hubs have achieved over the last ten years. In addition, Councillor Richard Lim OAM was also invited to speak and shared just how crucial hub programs were to the wellbeing and support to migrant communities.

Our lovely school Principal Debbie Cottier also shared some words of wisdom and thanked our amazing Dandenong community for trusting and giving us the incredible opportunity to connect, share and learn. We were also fortunate to also hear from hub participants themselves, who share just how much impact hubs have had on their lives and how they will almost cherish and remember those memories forever. Mum’s from the Dandenong Primary School Hub also dazzled the crowd with a Cultural Dress fashion parade.

There was a mini art exhibit where each hub decorated their own hub piece. The women from our Women’s Friendship group collaborated on creating an art piece that depicted a tree with deep roots and branches and leaves, blooming and blowing in the wind in all different directions alongside colourful butterflies with the freedom to fly wherever. A little metaphor for what Springvale Rise Community Hub means to them. The artwork was very well received by the community.

We were gifted a fig tree from Bunnings and a beautiful plaque from The Men’s Shed.  The location of where this tree and plant is yet to be decided so if you have any ideas please let me know! The story was also posted in the Star Journal, if you would like to read about it please click this link

Lastly, we are heading close to the end of year with Hub activities wrapping up soon. Our annual Summer Hampers are also starting to take place so if you would like to donate to those in need we would greatly appreciate it! We are currently accepting non-perishable foods, toiletries and homewares and toys. Please drop off at the office by the 15th of December.
