Curriculum Programs

Language Other Than English

The specialist program is drawing to a close, and what an exceptional year it has been! The students have made remarkable progress in their Vietnamese learning this year and we are most proud of their efforts.

FLC students have applied their knowledge of numbers and colours to read a story about animals in Vietnamese. They learned the names of a few animals and independently wrote sentences to describe how many animals they see and what colour the animals are.

JLC students have been learning about places in their community. They were able to create a simple sentence to describe where they are going in the community and what they can see.

In the MLC, the students learned to communicate with others in a shop or retail setting. Firstly, they identified a number of everyday clothing items they would find in a retail store. Then they learned simple phrases a shopkeeper would ask a customer and phrases a customer would ask. They practised engaging in real-life conversations, pretending to buy something at the shop.

Meanwhile, the SLC students have learned something similar to the MLC, except their exchanges were in a restaurant setting. The students identified the different food they’ve tried over the last few years in Vietnamese cooking experiences and discovered new food. They then learned simple phrases a waiter or waitress would ask a customer and vice versa. They all practised engaging in real-life conversations, pretending to eat at a restaurant and ordering something.

Overall, the students have been actively engaged in their Vietnamese language lessons, exploring vocabulary related to counting, community, and conversations in a retail and restaurant setting.
