From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

A huge congratulations to Rhiannon Almond who was announced as ‘People’s Choice Awards’ winner in the Mary Mackillop Art Exhibition. You may recall in a previous edition of il giornale we saw some very talented artists had entered the competition with some great success. The People’s Choice Award is a special award where people who view the exhibition (either online or in person), can cast a vote for their favourite art piece. This is the award Rhiannon has won. Well done, Rhiannon ! We look forward to the 2024 exhibition and many more St Anne’s College submissions.

Today was abuzz with excitement as the Year 9 students presented the culmination of their ‘Endless Possibilities Projects’. First up some of the SOW students came through to view the works and they were focussed on asking open ended questions. In session 3 and 4 the SOI and SOP students came through. The SOI students shared their inspiration about what they did their projects on, while the SOP students reflected upon their inquiry journey from when they engaged in the process themselves. The year 9s worked on building a culture of gratitude and mutual respect in giving feedback to each other. The year 9 staff are so very proud of the work that has been put into this project and already have ideas for bigger and better in 2024.

This week has seen our Year 10, 11 & 12 students moving into their learning groups for 2024. In this time, students have the opportunity to talk and learn about what success as a learner can look like in the School of Possibilities and how you can best set yourself up for success. Students are learning about timelines, processes and procedures in the VCE and VCE VM programs as well as preparing for structured workplace learning and TAFE, if this is part of their pathway.

We have a small group of students who have studied Unit 3/4 subjects in their VCE program in 2023. These students sat external exams and on December 11, they will receive their results. This can be a very nervous but exciting time and we wish all those students the very best with their results, they have put the hard work in.

Last Sunday Cherie, Elizabeth, Jacqui, Sarah and I had the privilege of attending the installation Mass and dinner for the new parish priests at Christ the King Church, St Mel’s Parish. It was a lovely service led by Bishop Shane and attended by many Priests, including the community of Rogationist Priests from Melbourne. Not only was it a welcome to the parish for Fr Rene and Fr Ruel, it was also a welcome to the Rogationist order of Priests to the Sandhurst Diocesan community. We look forward to seeing Fr Rene and Ruel at the college soon.

Yesterday, we farewelled Flavio Fontana. Flavio came to Australia from Italy through an education exchange program. Flavio joined the Year 11 cohort this year. During his time here he has made lots of new friends and experienced Australian culture and our system of schooling. Flavio has been a fantastic role model of our College expectations, gaining success with his art submission into the Mackillop Art Exhibition. Flavio was able to develop his English speaking skills but was also able to support our Unit 1/2 Italian Studies class in practising speaking and communicating in Italian. We wish Flavio all the best for the future and hope that he will come back to visit us one day soon. Thank you to the Niglia family (Aaron, LSO) for hosting Flavio and choosing St Anne’s College to be a part of this wonderful experience.
