"Listen to what the Spirit is saying."
We turn our hearts and minds to the people of the Yorta Yorta nation, who have occupied this country for thousands of years.
We pay respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging, and commit to walking alongside Aboriginal Australians in truth and justice.
Celebrating the Season
The word “Advent” is derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming”.
This Sunday we begin the season of Advent.
Advent marks the beginning of the Church’s new year and is the season of waiting and preparation for the coming of Christ.
Each Monday we will gather as a school community to pause and reflect on a different aspect of the season that prepares us for the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
We will light a new candle each week, when we light the candles on the wreath, it symbolises the coming of light (Jesus) into the world.
During the first week of Advent, we focus on HOPE.
Are we hope filled people - as Jesus was?
Do we look on the bright side of things - as Jesus did?
Do we look forward to tomorrow with hope - knowing that good things will happen - as Jesus did?
Are we people of HOPE?
In Sunday's Gospel, Jesus tells us to be alert and to stay awake, because we do not know when the Lord will come. It doesn’t just mean just sitting around and doing nothing while we wait. Rather, we are being reminded to be good disciples!
Our Grade Six Social Justice Leadership Team is a wonderful example of this as they have been busy organising a ‘Wishing Tree’ to support the work of St Vincent de Paul.
A big thank you to this group and their teachers as they encourage us to come together and support those in need by sharing the Christmas joy.
Advent God,
Show us the way to be a light to all in need.
Help us to live and be God’s Dream of hope, peace, love and joy for all people.
As we wait and anticipate the birth of Jesus, come to us and fill our hearts with hope.
This we ask through Jesus Christ the light of the world.
Amen.
