Earlier this week, our students were visited by an RAA Road Safety Educator who taught out students about:
Please ask your child about what they learned during the lesson and encourage your child to be extra safe when crossing, walking near or using the road. With many of us commuting to and from school, extracurricular activities, and other commitments, it's crucial to be vigilant on the road. By following these tips, we can all contribute to a safer environment on our roads. Let's work together to ensure that everyone—students, families, and community members—arrives at their destinations safely and securely.
The school theme for National Science Week in 2024 is Species Survival - More than just sustainability. The theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.
Our students participated in a variety of activities to celebrate Science Week, including a whole school Bug Hunt during Heart Learning. Our Year 6 Leaders taught the younger students of the community about the impact of human activity and climate change on different species, such as insects.
Did you know in Australia, we have around 24,000 species of native plants, and about 300,000 animal species (this includes 200,000 insect species!) – more than in any other developed nation – each contributing to our rich biodiversity. A large percentage of our insect species, however, are in danger and have begun to drop in numbers. Insects are responsible for our delicious fruits and vegetables, our beautiful flowers and plants, and play an important role in the food chain and Australia’s ecosystem. Our students searched for different bugs placed around the school, then used a clue to learn an important and interesting fact about that insect.
