Performing Arts

Hi Everyone!

Here’s a summary of what we’ve been learning in Performing Arts during the past two weeks…

Foundation

Foundation students have continued to learn about their expressive skills (body movements, facial expressions, hand gestures and voice) and enjoyed using them in a Drama activity called ‘Greetings’ last week.  Students have been applying their expressive skills to different characters in the well-known storybook ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’ Students enjoyed being Little Red Riding Hood, the Wolf and the Woodsman. Below are some photographs of FMV and FLH expressing their favourite characters from Little Red Riding Hood.

Year One and Two

Last week, students performed their Fractured Fairy Tales. A Fractured Fairy Tale is when you introduce characters from one Fairy Tale story into another or when you change the story in an unexpected way. This immediately adds layers of complexity and entertaining new versions. This week, they’ve been using mime techniques to perform a well-known fairy tale such as The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Year Three and Four

Year Three and Four students have begun rehearsal for their Short Scripted Stage Play with their groups. It’s so great to see the students thinking about the Elements of Drama as they are rehearsing. In particular, where they position themselves on the stage as well as how to express their different characters’ personalities.

Year Five

Year Five students are deep in their Clowning creative processes. Last week, students completed their clowning routines with a BIG EXIT.. This week, students made two dimensional props that they will use in their performances (shown in pictures). Students have been having so much fun with this unit already. It’s great to see them adopt the personalities of the White Face and Auguste Clown.

Year Six

Year Six students started their Flash Mob unit two weeks ago and completed it this week. They learnt about what a flash mob is and how to create a dance routine, as a class, that is suitable for a public environment.  It was a very short dance unit because next week, they will start to incorporate the Exhibition themes into their Performing Arts lessons.
