Year Two
Queens Park Excursion
During our inquiry into ‘Places are significant and given meaning by people’, students in Year Two explored historical places and artefacts in Queens Park.
After the tram ride there, we had a quick snack and walked around the park. We learned about the significance of the war memorial and the cannons. We saw the camel sculptures which were produced to commemorate the first camp site of the Burke and Wills expedition, as well as learning about the lagoon which is where travellers heading for the goldfields met because fresh water was available. We had our snack and a play on the playground and nature space before returning back to school by tram. It was a beautiful day and was a wonderful learning experience for the students to understand the value of places to people and the connection to place.
