House Theme for 2024: Empowering Change through Unity and Leadership
Greetings, Marcellin House family!
As we reach the midpoint of 2024, I, Mr. Harawa, am thrilled to share our progress and achievements. Our journey this year, grounded in unity and leadership, has been challenging but also encouraging and inspiring.
Our primary objective to foster a strong sense of togetherness is slowly coming to fruition. The collective effort and unique strengths of each member have driven us towards our common goals. We celebrate our diversity and embrace the richness it brings to Marcellin House. Guided by our House motto ‘One Heart and One Mind’, it is a constant reminder of how we can achieve change together as a collective.
This year's theme, "Empowering Change through Unity and Leadership," has resonated within our House. Students have discovered and connected their innate leadership potential to their goals. Various activities through the first half of the year, such as the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals as well as our Wellbeing program, have provided a platform to nurture these skills, fostering both personal, social and academic growth, led by our fantastic captains Brae and Charlize.
The recent Heritage Day celebration was a fantastic occasion for Marcellin House and the entire school community to come together and showcase talents, enjoy a number of activities and of cause the rides. It was a great day to create lasting memories. The Talent show was a highlight for staff while the Marcellin House chocolate toss proved to be a hit with the students.
Leadership in Marcellin House is about inspiring and uplifting others. Staff have taught and continue to role model this regularly and our students have begun to follow suit. Compassion, empathy, and integrity have been at the forefront of the type of leaders we are looking to develop, leaving a positive impact on our wider school community.
Reflecting on Our Roots
Our journey is continually inspired by Saint Marcellin Joseph Benedict Champagnat. His life story, from his humble beginnings in Le Rosey, France, to his founding of The Society of Mary, reminds us of the impact of education and dedication. His writings highlight five key traits that we strive to embody:
Presence - being genuinely attentive and engaged, creating a supportive environment where others feel valued.
Simplicity - embracing humility and authenticity, focusing on what truly matters without unnecessary complexity.
Love of Work - dedication to performing all tasks with pride, purpose, and a commitment to excellence.
In the Way of Mary - living with humility, compassion, and devotion, following the example of Mary in serving others selflessly.
Family Spirit - fostering a sense of community and belonging, where mutual respect, support, and love are prioritized.
Forever in our hearts
The recent devastating news of the passing of a member of our Year 7 Marcellin group, Chevelle Purdon, was met with shock, sadness and compassion across the entire school community. Students and staff alike struggled to come to terms with this unexpected event, yet compassionately had the family in their hearts and in their prayers.
In these sad moments the community really came together as one to support the family, support each other and say goodbye to the wonderful young person that was Chevelle. Farewell Chevelle, forever a member of Marcellin House.
Looking Forward
As we look ahead to the second half of the year, I am confident that Marcellin House will continue to reach new heights. I eagerly anticipate more opportunities for personal growth, the forging of lifelong friendships, and the creation of a remarkable legacy that will inspire others.
Together, we will continue to embrace unity and leadership, making a difference in our school and beyond.
Mr. Harawa
Head of Marcellin House
