Heritage Day

On Thursday 15 August the Marist Sion College came together in what was a spectacular celebration for our College.

Heritage Day created the opportunity for all students and staff to join together to celebrate the history of our College and connect with the charisms of Marist and Sion. We began the day with Mass celebrated by Fr Brendan Hogan and support by Deacon Mark.

At the conclusion of Mass, we were lucky enough to hear from former student Laura Jenkinson (Class of 2014) about her College experiences and how they helped form her work beyond the college. Her speech was well received from the student body and Laura is an excellent role model for our students demonstrating a growth mindset and seizing on the opportunities that Marist Sion offers.

After recess, the staff and students returned to the hall for Marist Sion's Got Talent where students and staff had the opportunity to showcase the diverse nature of talent present within our community. The talent show was wonderfully led by our College and Performing Arts Captains, Zizi, Bailey, Angus and Alana. There was singing, dancing, poetry, comedy and even an excellent demonstration of synchronised swimming performed by our very own HPE staff. What was most pleasing was the way the crowd respectfully cheered on and celebrated all performers for their courage to perform on stage.

The laughter and joy created in this environment certainly set the tone for the rest of the day. Blessed with beautiful sunshine and freed momentarily from the challenges the classroom setting, students and staff enjoyed the varied activities and food trucks available during the afternoon session. Many staff reported how much they enjoyed the opportunity that these days provide to engage positively with our students and vice versa.

We look forward to doing it all again in 2025.
