Student Learning Culture and Growth

As we reach the mid-way through Term 3, our team of staff at Marist-Sion College continue to prepare for the implementation of the new Victorian Curriculum 2.0, a dynamic and student-centered approach to education designed to foster critical thinking, creativity, and real-world problem-solving skills.

This new curriculum emphasizes comprehensive learning and equips students with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. To ensure that our teachers are fully prepared to bring this innovative curriculum to life throughout the College and particularly in the classroom, they have been actively participating in Professional Development both online and during our recent Professional Development Day. Our educators are prepared with the latest teaching strategies and resources, enabling them to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences for all students. We are confident that Curriculum 2.0 will enrich our students' educational journey and better prepare them for future success.

During the past two weeks, the 2025 Subject Selection Interviews were conducted for our current Year 9 and 10 students. This is a significant step in strengthening the partnership between the College and parents/carers to best support our students towards their future aspirations and learning opportunities. These interviews provided a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to engage directly in the subject selection process, ensuring that the choices made align with the students' strengths, interests, and future aspirations. By working together, we can create a supportive environment that helps students make informed decisions about their educational pathways. This collaborative approach underscores our commitment to fostering a strong and positive relationship between the College and our families, ensuring that every student is set up for success in their senior years.

During the second week of the September school holidays, our Year 12 students will be undertaking their Trial VCE Exams. These exams are a crucial part of their preparation for the final VCE exams, providing an opportunity to experience exam conditions and identify areas for improvement. While the holidays are a time to rest and recharge, these trial exams allow students to assess their understanding and refine their study strategies in a focused environment. We encourage all students to approach these exams with dedication and to use the feedback they receive to enhance their readiness for the final assessments.

Progress reports will be published on Thursday 29 August, offering key insights into your child's academic performance and areas for growth. Following the release of these reports, we highly encourage attendance at the upcoming Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for open dialogue, allowing us to collaboratively discuss your child's successes and identify strategies for improvement, ensuring they remain on track for continued academic progress.

Year 9 First Aid Course Information

Thursday 29 August 2024

On Thursday 29 August 2024, all our Year 9 students will be participating in First Aid Training facilitated by St John Ambulance. It will be a busy day, with 12 trainers coming onsite to give our Year 9 students important life skills. This course help student to prepare for their camping experience next term. We would like to thank Warragul Big Blokes for funding this training. They have been a sponsor of first aid training in our local community for many years and hundreds of students have benefited from their generosity.

For students to be able to receive a certificate at the conclusion of their training, they need to have (or create) a USI and respond to the email sent to them from St John Ambulance. The school does not directly deal with the issuing of certificates. Please refer the video on the USI site for details on creating a USI: https://www.usi.gov.au/students/get-a-usi

Further information will be available via PAM.
