School Life @ ASPS

Right Resilience and Respectful Relationships Update
On Thursday the 22nd of August Ms Jang and Ms Stanton visited Doncaster East Secondary College to attend the Inner East Lead Schools Community of Practice.
It was exciting to hear on that day that the RRRR program has been funded by the state government for an additional four years, which will continue to see it flourish in our school. Some new updates to the program include resources around consent, inclusive language and cultural strengths.
It was a great chance to meet with other schools in the area and hear what is happening in their RRRR program and also reflect on the success we have had at our school in its implementation. Successes for our school have included embedding wellbeing lines of inquiry in both planning and reporting and our Spaces and Play Student Action Group.
Lunchtime Initiative
Lunchtime on the synthetic can be pretty hectic, which doesn't give new or less confident players a chance to practice their skills or get better. A group of students, along with Ms Jang and Ms Stanton, have come up with a great solution.
On Monday's during third play our inter school soccer team will be running "Matildas in Training" sessions to provide space, access and time for students to upskill. During this time regular synthetic pitch users are invited to engage with other play spaces in the school as the synthetic pitch will be solely for these new and emerging players.
We are so excited to see this student led initiative get up and running at our school.
Our Preps explore nature!
On Wednesday 14th August our prep students visited the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens to explore the central idea, Appreciation of nature can inspire creativity. As they walked around the gardens they tapped into their senses to tune in to nature and appreciated the feelings of peace and happiness, while also having fun playing and even rolling down the hills.
In the workshops the students created visual artworks in nature. With their artist’s eye they explored the Drylands and learnt about the uniqueness of the flora in that area. They enjoyed creating rubbings in the arid area. The scavenger hunt was very interesting as it ignited curiosity and wonder.
We thank the educators and the parent helpers for their assistance on the day. We will continue to practice mindfulness and nurture a greater awareness of self and others as we experience the effects of tuning in to nature through our wonderful unit of inquiry.
Year 5 Inquiry
Throughout Term 3 so far, the Year 5 students and team have been inquiring into How we organise ourselves through the central idea: Locations and people are influenced by events. What better way to inquire into this than the very global event of the Summer Olympics!
We have been very fortunate to have had guest speakers including Dr Alexa Delbosc (civil engineer), Australian Olympians Matthew Ryan and Jessica Hansen to share how a major event like the Olympics can impact individuals and communities.
Alongside the incursions, Year 5 students went on an excursion to the MCG where we explored the Sports Museum, the MCG facilities and spoke to Reba Stewart, another Australian Olympian.
To celebrate the learning of our Year 5 students from this unit, we would like to share our class Padlets - which include a PDF that showcases the diverse research our students conducted about their National Olympic Committee (NOC) of choice, along with their biographies of a chosen athlete!
Please have a look, and take some time to learn more about some of these countries/nations!

Volunteering at ASPS
After reviewing our current processes, we have developed a Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook.
Going forward, all volunteers at ASPS (sporting events, classroom reading, excursions, SAKG, canteen etc.) will be required to read this handbook and return the two signed forms, along with their WWC, to the office.
Once this has occurred, then you can volunteer at ASPS.
Please find the Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook below:
