Principal's Report
What a term it has been for all in our community. I spent some fun time with students and parents this morning at the Foundation STEM morning (keep an eye on Facebook for some photos) and we are all looking forward to the amazing Book Fun Day! I hope everyone has sorted out their costumes, please see more information from Mrs Tribolet in this newsletter.
NAPLAN RESULTS
We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you all – our NAPLAN results are in, and they reflect the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of our incredible students and educators. Across the board our results are at or above our similar schools and network schools. Our Year 3 results are to be highlighted with their results showing BPS as the top school in comparison to our similar schools in all 3 areas of Reading, Numeracy and Writing - a huge achievement.
We extend our congratulations to all our students for their remarkable performance in this year's NAPLAN assessments. Your commitment to learning and growth has truly paid off, and we couldn't be prouder!
Behind every student's success stands a dedicated team of educators, parents, and the entire BPS community. Your unwavering support and guidance have played a crucial role in shaping our students' achievements.
As we celebrate these accomplishments, we are inspired to continue fostering an environment of learning, growth, and support for all of our students. Our teachers will continue to investigate these results further to look at future teaching areas.
CONGRATULATIONS ZOYA PAVLOFF
As you will have read last newsletter, our beloved teacher, Mrs Zoya Pavloff has informed me that she will be retiring from teaching. A very exciting time for her after 17 years at BPS and she is looking forward to coming to farewell all BPS students.
I know that our school community will be excited for Zoya and will wish her all the best in this next stage of her life. I welcome all of our community and past families and students, to celebrate her career on the 23rd August.
Please RSVP to blackburn.ps@education.vic.gov.au if you would like to attend.
STUDENT SAFETY
As Spring approaches and more children are walking and riding to school it is important to remind your children about Stranger Danger and general safety as they travel to and from school.
Please speak with your children about actions to take should they experience such incidents. At school, as part of the Wellbeing Programs, teachers discuss various situations with students and how to keep themselves safe from harm. Some tips for parents are, make sure children walk in groups, stay on the main walking paths, walk home at the same time as other school families, discuss where other families live on the walk home if they ever needed, come to school at around the same time as others and utilise TheirCare if an early start or late finish is required.
The Department of Education has an Emergency Management system where alerts are recorded and shared with neighbouring schools so that all local communities are aware. Local police are also extra vigilant when a report is made. We must work together as a community to keep each other safe especially in and around our school environment.
Safety for kids and Health Direct are great resources for proactive ways to discuss safety when out and about.
WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
A random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents / caregivers / guardians has been selected to participate in this year’s survey and they will be contacted directly.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open until Friday 30th August.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
Please speak to me if you would like more information.
