Clarity Learning Week - Week 9, Term 3
We are looking forward to welcoming Dr Lyn Sharratt back to the Diocese in Week 9, of this term. The focus will be on “Instruction and Writing” and “Evidence of Impact’, and include learning walks and talks in schools. (See agenda here).
Schools are to choose the venue and dates that best suit their needs. The dates and venues for this Professional Learning has been arranged as follows:
- 17th & 18th September:
St Joseph’s West Tamworth- Time: Tuesday - 9am to 3:30pm & Wednesday - 9am to 2pm

This professional learning is for the Leadership team members of your school, however Principals may choose to invite additional staff members. Costs for leadership team members to attend these sessions will be met by Armidale Catholic Schools Office. For any additional staff attending, costs will need to be met by the school.
All staff attending need to complete the registration form (see links above) by no later than Friday 23rd August.
Leader as Coach Program
A two day professional development day for leaders facilitated by Catherine Jackson from Leopard Tree on Tuesday 24 & Wednesday 25 September 2024 8:30am – 3:30pm at Armidale Catholic Schools Office, Angela Merici Room.
This program is all about making coaching simple, accessible and integral to the way you lead. The ultimate goal is to build capability, independence and confidence in those you lead and support.
Regardless of whether you have some experience of coaching or this is new for you, these days will help you to integrate a coaching approach into your leadership habits and decisions.
This is an optional professional learning opportunity and the cost for attendance is at each school's expense. For more information please see this Flyer
UniSuper’s investment webcast
You’re invited to UniSuper’s exclusive webcast: Investing – an institutional perspective. A panel discussion with their investment’s team (via webinar) on 10th October. Anyone teaching Business Studies type subjects are more than welcome to use this as part of their teaching content if appropriate.
Writing & Cold Writes
As outlined on the 2024 CSO Data Collection Schedule Primary Schools continue to complete four Cold Write assessments throughout the year. The resources for Cold Write #3 & Warm Write #3 are linked on the schedule.
Big Write and VCOP continue to support our system approach, with a strong focus on vocabulary and oral language and communication through Big Talks, Big Writes, and Cold & Warm Writes.
Please remember that Platinum Accounts have been renewed for staff to access: www.vcop.com.au
Case Management: Our case managed work samples will change this term to ensure we are gathering accurate data to support future teaching and learning. We ask LoPs to please select:
- 6 x Year 2 samples: 2 top, 2 middle, 2 bottom
- 6 x Year 4 samples: 2 top, 2 middle, 2 bottom
Small schools - please provide 2 samples for Years 2 & 2 samples for Year 4.
These can be uploaded to case-managed work samples to the ‘CSO MALT Big Write shared drive by Monday 2 September 2024.
Year 1 Phonics Screener
We are pleased to inform you that, as part of our ongoing efforts to further enhance our Data Ecosystem, we will be introducing a new visualisation for the Year 1 Phonics Screener this term. This development represents a significant step forward in how we collect, interpret, and utilise data to support our students.
We look forward to sharing the full scope of the Phonics Screener visualisation with you once all results have been entered. As a reminder the Phonics Screener window on ALAN is open from the 12th to the 30th of August, (Weeks 4 - 6).
The Phonics Screener resource can be accessed on the ‘Term 2 2024 Data Communication’ sent to Principals, Assistant Principals and LOPs late last term. If you need any support with the Phonics Screener, please contact Jess Scully, Jacqui Wait or Briony Martin.
