Wicked Stageshow Workshop at McClelland College
This past month, the McClelland wellbeing team were lucky enough to receive tickets to a wonderfully Wicked experience, to share with selected students. This opportunity was brought to us by the Australian Numeracy and Literacy Foundation (ANLF), who aim to immerse students, who may not otherwise have the opportunity, in the world of musical theatre.
Sixteen year 9 and 10 students set off on PT to the Regent theatre, accompanied by Bridey Oliver, Stephanie Ganegoda and Emily McCarron. We were met at the theatre entrance by the very hospitable ANLF representative, Bridget. Excitement was high, and students and staff alike were anxious to get seated.
The next 3 hours was a spectacle that exceeded expectations. The on-stage talent, costumes and set designs were breathtaking. Once the show had finished, we were fortunate enough to be welcomed to the front of the theatre to participate in a Q & A with cast and crew. Our students represented the college beautifully, listening respectfully and asking pertinent questions.
From there, we were invited backstage to explore how the production unfolded each day- from costumes and props to lighting and music.
McClelland students returned home feeling inspired, albeit a little tired from the long journey.
Last week, to complete the experience, Bridget and 3 of the cast members visited McClelland to run a workshop with the participating students. A big thanks for those students who participated and made our guests feel welcome.
Our hope is that this experience encouraged students to look out-side the box regarding the arts and potential future career pathways.
