ADF Careers & Pathways Presentation

On Wed 22 August, during lunchtime, we were fortunate to host two members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) who presented to interested students in Years 9 to 12 about the various career opportunities within the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The session provided an in-depth look at the diverse entry pathways into the ADF and the extensive range of career options available.

Students gained valuable insights into the specifics of ADF training programs, promotion structures, opportunities, and the incentives offered to those who join. Importantly, the presentation also addressed the level of commitment required, giving students a realistic understanding of what life in the Defence Force entails.

With over 300 roles to choose from, the ADF representatives demonstrated how to navigate the ADF careers website to explore different career options and shared tips on what key information to look for.

The session covered the application process for various roles, highlighting how the requirements and duration of the process vary depending on the position and the level of training involved. At the end of the presentation, students had the chance to ask personalized questions, which led to engaging discussions with the ADF members.

It was encouraging to see so many students deeply engaged with the presentation and showing interest in exploring these opportunities further. We encourage all students to continue investigating these pathways and to reach out to the ADF for any specific questions or guidance.

For a comprehensive overview of the careers available and how to apply, please refer to the attached brochure. For more detailed information, visit the ADF careers website: https://www.adfcareers.gov.au/

5 Questions to Ask When Researching University Degrees

"It is the season of university Open Days and study decisions for Year 12 students.

As an academic, the question I get asked most by students and parents is, “will this degree lead to a job? It is understandable. However, it isn’t necessarily the right question to ask, as young people consider what course will suit them best.

Focusing solely on immediate job prospects (“degree equals job”) can limit the understanding of what university courses actually provide.”

The following article is a great read for students and their parents, particularly those who intend on starting a university degree next year but are still unsure about which courses they want to apply for:  https://theconversation.com/will-this-degree-lead-to-a-job-is-the-wrong-question-heres-what-you-should-ask-instead-236393?utm_source=linkedin&utm_medium=bylinelinkedinbutton

VTAC Webinars for Students & Parents/Guardians

VTAC - SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme) & Scholarships

The Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) is the VTAC special consideration application for circumstances that have made it hard for you to do your best at study. There are 4 different SEAS categories, and you can apply for as many as you feel are relevant to your circumstances.

We strongly recommend ALL students applying for tertiary study through VTAC submit a SEAS application – all students are eligible to apply for Category 1.

It's best to get started early, as most categories require additional evidence about the circumstances. Read below for information about the requirements for each category.

Students who will be submitting supporting documentation must submit this through the VTAC website by 5pm, Fri 20 September if they wish for VTAC to review the documentation.  Final cut-off date for SEAS applications and submission of documentation is 5pm, 11th October.
