2025 Solar Car Challenge

Mazenod College Shines in 2025 STAWA Solar Car Challenge Sponsored by Synergy

Mazenod College’s Year 8 students Jack K, Oliver H, Riley M and Curtis N made their mark at the 2025 STAWA Solar Car Challenge on April 1st, securing an impressive 5th place in a highly competitive field. The event, hosted by the Science Teachers’ Association of Western Australia (STAWA) at Southern River College was sponsored by Synergy, and brought together 20 schools from across the Southern Metro Area to showcase innovation, teamwork and sustainability in action.

The challenge required students to design, build, and race model solar-powered cars, testing their engineering prowess and problem-solving skills. Our team demonstrated remarkable creativity and resilience, fine-tuning their vehicle to maximize efficiency and speed. Their hard work paid off as they navigated through intense heats to secure a top-five finish.

Mr Bradstreet who accompanied the students on the day praised their efforts, stating:"This achievement reflects their dedication and passion for engineering. They worked tirelessly to refine their design, and their result is a testament to their commitment to innovation and sustainability."

A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr Bradstreet and all the Year 8 Science teachers - Mr Massey, Mr Mallon, Mr Ellul, and Ms Tersigni who guided and supported all the Year 8 students throughout this journey.

A huge congratulations to our students for their hard work and determination! Mazenod College continues to push the boundaries of STEM education, and we look forward to seeing what our talented students achieve next.
