Hi all
Well, the early season byes are over, and we move onto Round five – Gather Round with all games being played in South Australia.
Round four had a game that went down to the wire with a highly controversial non umpiring decision once again causing Adelaide Crows supporters great angst and one upset but otherwise went largely as expected. We had three people (Chris Parkes, Kasey Pass and David Hiatt) who managed to pick 8/8 with all three being four points off the margin in Collingwood’s win over Carlton and as such they get $16.66 each. A further 45 people got 7/8.
With regard to the overall leaderboard, Emily Hocking and Barry Hicks have been joined by David Hiatt as our early leaders on 29 with a further five people just one back on 28.
Adelaide v Geelong
Geelong has won three of the last four games played between these sides at the Adelaide Oval and Adelaide will be coming off a five-day break. Should be a good close game to start the round;
Collingwood v Sydney
Sydney has won five of the last six games between these sides, none of which were played at the Adelaide Oval. Another tough game to pick with any confidence;
North Melbourne v Gold Coast Suns
North were terribly disappointing on the weekend so should bounce back a bit while Gold Coast will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season;
Carlton v Eagles
Two teams without a win so far this season yet almost everyone will tip the same side to win;
Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions
Brisbane’s unbeaten start to the season should continue;
Melbourne v Essendon
Two teams who have had very poor starts to the season but at least it should be close. The heat will and truly be applied to the losing team;
Richmond v Fremantle
Richmond gave their supporters something to feel good about with a competitive loss to Brisbane while Fremantle were resilient and courageous in overcoming injuries to beat the Bulldogs;
St Kilda v GWS
This should be a good game. I imagine most people will pick GWS, but another St Kilda win will really get people to sit up and take notice; and
Port Adelaide v Hawthorn
Port continues to struggle but has won five of the last six games between these sides at the Adelaide Oval. Despite that, I expect most people to pick top of the table Hawthorn.
