Parent information session

There are some exciting things happening at RSC and we can’t wait to share it with all of you!

Our committee and coaches have been working with Wayne Lawes since November 2024 to produce a strategy, squad structure and program that will facilitate the long term development of swimmers from our junior squads all the way to our performance level and give them the best opportunity to reach their full potential. RSC is committed to delivering an exceptional age group program that will produce national level swimmers who can compete with the best in the country, while still catering for those who are interested in non-competitive swimming for fitness and continuous stroke improvement.

The new strategy of providing a more age and development level appropriate program will bring changes to our existing squad structure and timetable, which will be implemented at the start of term 2. We invite you to learn more about these changes as detailed below:

What: Parent Information Meeting

When: Monday, March 31st @ 6pm

Where: Aquanation Waterslide Hall

Who: Andrew Goetz (RSC Head Coach) & Brett Poppins (RSC President) – new strategy and squad structure, and Wayne Lawes - The Long Journey

Wayne Lawes has a wealth of experience in the world of swimming and has a long list of qualifications and achievements. He has coached many Olympic and international swimmers and was awarded the Australian Coaches Association Award for Outstanding Contribution to Australian Swimming. Wayne has served as the Coach Development Director at Swimming Victoria and during his time as Coaching Director at Nunawading, he was part of the Tokyo Australian Olympic Swimming Team, with 2 of his swimmers qualifying for the team.

RSC has been extremely fortunate to have Wayne onboard, mentoring our coaching team and swimmers in the performance stream for the last few months. Wayne will be speaking at the information meeting on the long term development of our swimmers going forward. He will outline the philosophy behind RSC’s vision and highlight what to expect as your children embark on ‘The Long Journey’ of development, not just as swimmers, but also as people. He will address what the journey can look like for swimmers at different ages and at different points in time, how to keep them in the sport and the processes involved in their training. This is a unique opportunity to learn and understand what is involved in the long term development of your swimmer from an expert in the field.

It will be extremely beneficial for a parent of each swimmer to attend this important meeting so you understand the upcoming changes and how it will impact your swimmer.

We look forward to seeing all of you on March 31st at 6pm.

We are aware that many of you will be anxious to know any changes to your swimmer’s existing timetable so you can plan ahead for term 2. Rest assured, this information will be provided on Tuesday/Wednesday next week.

Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
