Learning and Teaching - Vision for Instruction

Over the last twelve months, staff at OLSC have been exploring the MACS Vision for Instruction.  (You can click on the image to see the full document).

Essentially, we are exploring the way in which we teach. You may have noticed changes in the way we teach mathematics and literacy over the last twelves months.

Research tells us that we need to have the following elements in a lesson:

  • Review previously taught content and skills
  • Checking for Understanding
  • Explicit teaching - I do (the teacher)
  • Guided practice - We do (teacher and students together)
  • Independent practice - You do (the students)

For parent information, including how you can support this, please read the Parent Guide by clicking on the image to the right.

The video below further explains what explicit instruction is.

We will continue to bring you information about what learning looks like at OLSC throughout the year. If you have questions about these strategies, please feel free to reach out to Bec.

Smart Watches

As smartwatches become more prevalent, we have noticed that more students at OLSC are wearing them to school. Whilst we love the fact that students are telling the time we do need to insist that all smartwatches are set to school mode between 8:30am and 3:15pm. This setting ensures that students are not being distracted during learning time or contacting others, which is a violation of our school technology user agreement.

We thank you for your assistance with this matter.
