Year 1/2 News

Learning Centre One
We can hardly believe that the end of Term 1 is already here! It feels like just yesterday that we kicked off the school year, and what a wonderful term it has been. The students in 1/2 have truly thrived, diving into a variety of exciting and enriching learning experiences. From exploring new concepts in literacy and maths to engaging in creative activities with enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication in all that they have done. It's been a fantastic journey of growth and discovery, and we're so proud of everything they have accomplished!
In Literacy, we focused on the importance of exercise and how staying active benefits both our bodies and minds. To embrace the Easter spirit, we read How to Catch the Easter Bunny and followed up with some fun Easter crafts, adding a festive twist to our learning. In Little Learners, the students explored the phoneme ‘oa’ through words like "boat" and "goat." It’s been a fantastic combination of movement, reading, and creativity!
Over the holidays please access the online Little Learners portal for reading, as their have been texts added from the books read in class. Students are encouraged to read their reader, online books and books from their own personal library. Please record this in their reading journal. If you need access to the online Little Learners portal please check your child's reading journal for the QR code that is stuck in the front.
The Easter Hat Parade was a great success! A big thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended and helped create the amazing hats.
Throughout Maths, we continued to strengthen our addition and subtraction skills using various strategies. Students worked with counters, ten frames, and number lines to visualize and solve problems with confidence.
During Religion, we explored the liturgical seasons of the Catholic Church, focusing on Ordinary Time, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. We discussed the celebrations and the special symbols that represent each season’s important events.
In Inquiry, we talked about ways to keep ourselves and others healthy, safe, and happy. The children shared their ideas in writing and got creative by making colorful posters to spread these important messages.
Wishing you all an amazing holiday filled with fun and relaxation. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for Term 2! Have a blessed Easter!
If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s learning group teacher or Kiah.
