Learning Centre Three

Wow! Can you believe it’s already the end of Term 1? Time has flown by! It feels like only yesterday that our Grade Prep students began their school journey, and in these 10 short weeks, they’ve learned so much and made many new friends. It’s been a fantastic start to their school year, and we are so proud of all their hard work and progress. We can’t wait to see what the next term has in store for them – exciting adventures and more learning await!

Phonics

Students have been busy revising the eight sounds that they have learnt throughout term 1. They also began reading decodable books in small groups with their teacher. Families will have the opportunity to practise reading these familiar books with their children early next term when we begin to send home books to read at home. This will be a great way for children to reinforce their skills and build confidence in reading!

Literacy

In preparation for our Easter Hat Parade, students enjoyed reading the story Old Hat by Emily Gravett. After exploring the tale of Harbet, the main character, they got creative and designed their own unique hats inspired by the story. They also read How to Catch the Easter Bunny by Adam Wallace, and then used playdough to create their very own Easter Bunny.

Maths

Students enjoyed playing subitising and counting games to practise the skills that they have learnt this term. They especially enjoyed playing Snakes and LaddersDominoes and Bingo together!

Religion

Students have continued to explore what it means to be part of a family, including our school family and God’s family. They expressed their ideas through colour, symbols and images reflecting on the importance of belonging.

Inquiry

Students have been learning about the importance of asking for help. They discussed who they can turn to for support, practiced how to ask, and brainstormed different situations where they might need help. It’s been a valuable lesson in building confidence and knowing when and how to reach out for assistance.

Buddies

Students absolutely love spending time with their buddies! There's always a buzz of excitement as the buddies arrive, and the space fills with chatter as they reunite. This week, students worked together to create handprints that symbolize their special buddy relationship. A blank space next to the handprints has been left, allowing us to repeat the activity later in the year. It will be amazing to see how much the students have grown and how their bond with their buddies continues to develop!

Easter Hat Parade

The highlight of the week was definitely the Easter Hat Parade! A big thank you to all the families for their hard work in helping the children prepare for this special event. The students from Grade Prep to 2 proudly showed off their creative hats, and to top it all off, they even had a special visit from the Easter Bunny!
