Fantastic 3/4

Term 1 Week 10 2025

What have we been up to?

What an enjoyable first term we've had back at school! We hope that everyone has a relaxing and well-deserved break, and we are eagerly looking forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 2.

In Reading, students have successfully completed reading Matilda and had the exciting opportunity to watch the original film adaptation. This allowed them to engage in a detailed comparison between the book and the movie, exploring how the two mediums portray the story in different ways. Additionally, students have written creative and thoughtful narratives inspired by the themes of Matilda, showcasing their ability to connect literature to their own writing.

This term, we have placed a strong emphasis on both handwriting and typing skills. It has been truly rewarding to witness the progress students have made in forming their letters correctly during handwriting exercises. Additionally, we have seen notable improvements in their speed and accuracy when typing on the computer.

In phonics this term we covered the following spelling rules:

In Mathematics, Year 4 students have been diving into the concepts of chance and angles. They spent a week exploring probability and another week investigating the different ways in which angles are measured and categorised. Meanwhile, Year 3 students have been focusing on the area and perimeter of 2D shapes, developing a solid understanding of these key concepts and how to apply them to real-world scenarios.

In Inquiry, students have concluded their study of the role of Government in Australia; in particular the role that democracy plays in their daily lives. Students demonstrated their knowledge and understanding through creating posters and PowerPoint presentations about what democracy means to them.

During the holidays, there will be no assigned homework. However, we encourage you to support your child in practicing their times tables, as it can have a significant impact on their learning. Additionally, we recommend that students continue reading each night to help maintain their progress.
