Terrific 2

Term 1 Week 10 2025 -  Friday 4th April

What have we been up to?

We made it!! All of the students have been working with such positive attitudes, throughout this term, Well done! Thank you to all the parents who came in for our ‘How We Teach Phonics’ morning. It was lovely to have you come see what your child gets up to every morning. We hope you all have a restful, fun and safe school holiday. It is well deserved!

In Literacy

We’ve been continuing to focus on phonics, handwriting, fluency reading and our author study of Nick Bland. Students have been busy writing their own narrative story about a bear. Week 10 has had a focus of editing and publishing their good copy narrative. They have come up with some really creative and entertaining ideas, it has been brilliant to see!

Home Readers

Please remember that READERS ARE CHANGED EVERY MONDAY. Students will take 2 books each Monday, where they can alternate throughout the week. Please remember, students need to read these everyday as they are all in grade 2 now.

Readers will only be changed on a Monday. This may be repetitive for your child however that is the purpose. We are focusing on fluency and confidence.

Students should continue to read over the school holidays!

In Maths

In Maths, we have completed our latest topic, Shape. Over the past couple of weeks, students have been using concrete materials learning all about vertices, faces and edges. They have also been learning how to rotate shapes in an clockwise/anti-clockwise direction. This week we have completed both essential assessment and hard copy tests. The students have done a great job!

Leader in Me and Respectful Relationships:

Over the past two weeks, students have continued on their Leader in Me journey by focusing on Habit 4: Think win-win. They learned how to approach hard situations with the belief that there can be mutual benefit for everyone involved. Instead of focusing on competition or one-sided success, “Win-Win” emphasizes collaboration, aiming for solutions where all parties feel they have gained something positive.

Science

We have continued our Science focus for this term, Chemical Sciences. During this topic students will be learning all about how objects are made of different materials that have observable properties and how everyday materials can be physically changed or combined with other materials in a variety of ways for particular purposes. This week's focus was on what happens to materials once they are heated and cooled.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress.

Thank you for your support, Kayla Mugford Hannah, Jackson & Sam Downs
