Mobile Phone Policy

Safeguarding Students, Enhancing Engagement & Connection
Important Update Student Mobile Phone Policy - Term 2 Commencement
The safety, health and wellbeing of our students is first and foremost in all operations of our College. It is our aim to maximise student engagement, connection and sociability across the duration of the day, and as such we have reviewed and amended the Student Mobile Phone Policy here to help reduce the negative effects of screen time.
The latest research on the negative impact of Mobile Phones on young people supports that schools need to take further action. These changes will come into effect from Term 2, Day 1 and bring us into line with Victorian Education Department guidelines.
Students will not be permitted to carry Mobile Phones with them in the schoolyard between classes or during recess or lunchtime. Should students wish to briefly check their messages, this can be done at their locker at the commencement of recess or lunchtime as they replace their books.
There will be a strict requirement that students store their Mobile Phones in their lockers from 8.40 am and 3.15 pm each day. Students will only be permitted to have a Mobile Phone in class or on other school activities if the teacher specifies to that class at least 24 hours prior to the activity that a Mobile Phone is required as a learning resource. At all other times Mobile Phones must not be taken to class or on school activities.
From the commencement of Term 2, at school purchases for Canteen or Cafe will only be made via Debit Card or Cash. Students without a Debit Card may need to make the necessary arrangements with their bank.
Students in breach of the Mobile Phone policy will have their device confiscated for that day. We urge all families to read and discuss the Mobile Phone Policy with their son.
Students will be expected to adhere to the policy and are at all times responsible for their own devices. Should you require any further clarification please do not hesitate to contact me on 9582 5999 or email mj@stbedes.catholic.edu.au
We thank all students, families and staff for their support in maintaining a safe and social environment for all our students.
Yours faithfully
