Assistant Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers of the BEPS community,

Welcome back to Term 2!

We hope you had a safe, restful and joyful break with your family and friends. As we begin Term 2, we are excited for the many learning opportunities and experiences for our students here at Burwood East Primary School.

We kindly request that you keep track of the school calendar for upcoming events hosted throughout the school. These events include our Year 3-6 Cross Country, District Cross Country, VHAP for selected students in Year 5 and 6, our Mother’s Day Stall and Year level incursions and/or excursions.

We are always looking for community support and encourage parents and carers to volunteer their time to be involved in these amazing opportunities. If you are interested in helping out, please keep up to date with requests on Compass and ensure that you have a valid Working with Children’s Check.

ANZAC Day Memorial at Box Hill Cenotaph

Last Wednesday our Year 6 student leaders attended a significant event hosted by the Box Hill RSL, The Schools ANZAC Service 2025

As representatives for Burwood East Primary School, our Year 6 leaders paused to honor and remember the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country. The service included the laying of wreaths, the reading of The Ode and the playing of The Last Post.

We thank Hannah and Onal, our Community Captains for laying the wreath on behalf of Burwood East PS.

ANZAC Day recognises the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps sacrificed their lives for the land that we stand upon today.

Our leaders displayed our school values, in particular respect throughout the ceremony, with organisers commenting on our exemplary behaviour.

Smile Squad

Last week the Smile Squad commenced their dental check ups. The Smile Squad will only see students whose parents have consented on their online platform or have returned the consent form. The Smile Squad will be with Burwood East for the next two weeks.

Information, including the link to the online consent form has been shared via Compass. Paper copies of the consent form can be made available. Please contact the school office if you would like to request one. Please note, the electronic consent form can be translated into more than 100 languages, and the paper form is currently available in 13 languages.

Year 3-6 Cross Country

Our school’s cross country event offers students the chance to challenge themselves physically while fostering school spirit. The event is where students of all abilities participate, having a go at achieving their personal best  or simply a chance to enjoy the scenery of Highbury Park, in a 2km or 3km race.

This morning was so much fun, with students competing in their House Colours and cheering each other on.

We thank Mitch for his organisation and the smooth coordination of the day and the staff and parents who volunteered as marshals or members of the cheer squad! Congratulations to the students, who will participate in the District Cross Country on Friday 9th of May.

Mother’s Day Stall

On Thursday 8th of May and Friday 9th of May we will be hosting our Mother’s Day Stall. Gifts will be priced between $1-$8. We are seeking parent helpers to run the stall. If you are interested please email parent.association@burwoodeastps.vic.edu.au to register your interest. A timetable has been shared via Compass for you to know which day your child will be attending the stall.

Students love the opportunity to purchase a gift for their mum, grandma, aunt, or any special person in their life to show how much this person means to them. We wish all the mums and special people a day filled with love and laughter on Sunday 11th of May.

Year 6-7 Transition information Pack

The Year 6-7 Transition is an exciting time for both students and families, marking the next chapter in your child’s learning. This term families will need to complete the application forms to select your preferred school setting for your child. To assist parents, our Year 6 teachers hosted a Parent Information session last Thursday to share the Year 6 to Year 7 Placement Process, this included the application process, grounds for appeal and the steps required to secure a place in a high school for 2026.
