Year One - Literacy

This term, our enthusiastic Year 1 students have been diving into the wonderful world of narrative story writing!

To help them become confident storytellers, we’ve been focusing on five key elements: characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end

These components are the foundation of any good narrative, and provide structure for students as they create their own imaginative stories.

In Reading, the students have read books by the popular children’s author Pamela Allen, such as The Bear’s Lunch and Mr McGee. They have identified the key elements of these stories and used them to summarise what happened.

When Writing their own stories, the students are encouraged to stretch their imaginations. This aligns with our big idea for Inquiry this term, ‘I am creative’.

Take a look at some of the magnificent work our students have done so far in Term 2!

They have summarised Pamela Allen’s stories and have begun to write their own stories, too!
