'Opportunity' lunchtime

Acting Head of Primary, Mr Glyn Teape

The Primary School has continued to be a busy place over the last fortnight. On Tuesday the Class Representatives, led by Mrs Haylee Godfrey, organised an ‘Opportunity’ lunchtime for Years 2-6 students. This involved each class running an activity for the students to complete that would give them an opportunity to try something new or different to what they normally do. The students had great fun doing everything from origami to musical bobs to learning how to draw a Pikachu! The sights were wonderful as the students moved around the grounds. A big thank you to Mrs Godfrey and the Class Representatives. Thanks also to the classroom and specialist teachers for sacrificing their lunch breaks to support the students.

Last Friday the Year 1 classes hosted the Assembly for Pre-Primary to Year 6 students. They showcased ‘changes over time’ and the audience, particularly the parents and carers, loved hearing all the old music and the games that children used to play. The costumes were an absolute hit. A big thank you to the Year 1 teachers and Education Assistants for all the hard work they put into this. Well done also to the parents for the support of their children in dressing up!

Over the last fortnight the students have been enjoying attending the various clubs that are on offer this term. It has been great hearing from the students about all the wonderful things they are doing, from drawing to playing football to sewing! Thanks to Ms Mel Fowler for her leadership of this, along with all the staff for the giving of their time out of school hours.

Being an International Baccalaureate World School, we are always looking for opportunities for students to ‘take action’ and be caring and kind citizens. This has been put into practice this term when we have had some Year 4 students wanting to care for the environment. Along with the help of the House Captains, we have had various Year 4 students cleaning up the school with pick up claws during our recess and lunch breaks. Thankfully they haven’t been finding too much rubbish!

Being a part of a K-12 Anglican school allows students to feel connected and have a sense of belonging. A pleasure over this week and into next has been to welcome two of our Year 11 students on Work Placements. Hannah Gilham is working in the Year 1 Numbat classroom and Ashleigh Hannah in the Primary Art Room. A big thank you to Ms Bronte Norton and Ms Simone de La Motte for their guidance and leadership of these two students.

Today we had some of our Years 2-6 students representing the School at Guildford Grammar as part of the IPSHA Inter-School Cross Country. Well done to all these students for making it this far and for putting in a great effort. Thanks to Ms Wilkinson and Ms Fowler for their leadership of this and for Miss David and Mr Tsironis for helping supervise and support the team.
