MUSIC

From the land of Music

Year 1/2s, 1S and 2/3S

If you walked past the music room this term you might have heard ukuleles strumming, Marimbas playing and djembes drumming. We have entered the land of jungles in the music room to go with the artworks students are making in their Art lessons.

We have played an ostinato on the marimba (a repeated musical pattern) to accompany a song and kept a steady beat on the djembe. Ukulele students have been leading the way as we get our hands and heads around strumming the C chord (and occasionally G and F).

We wrote some graphic notation of the rhythms we use. Graphic notation is using your own symbols to represent the sounds. Here are some examples that even use horses!

We will share what we have been working on at the end of the term at the Art, Craft and Music Expo.

Foundation students have been singing, singing, singing! They have also been playing musical games, moving to the music and using the rainbow ring to keep a steady beat.

I even heard students from both Foundation classes, together in the yard at lunchtime, singing one of our songs on repeat as they drew and chatted.

We will share some of our songs at the end of the term at the Art, Craft and Music Expo.

Ask your Foundation student if they can sing one of these songs to you:

I Like the Flowers

The Hippopotamus Song

Bow Wow Wow

When I Was One I Sucked My Thumb

On My Toe There Is A Flea

The TPS choir have been rehearsing on Fridays and here are 2 songs we have been working on:

Twaganin!
