Year 2/3 Steiner

Celebrating Learning

Kii 2/3S families!

Our Trading Treasure Main Lesson has taken us floating down the Nile in ancient Egypt to barter papyrus and gold, travelling by boat across seas to trade spices and cacao leaves, through deserts along the Silk Road with camel caravans, around Australia with Aboriginal groups bartering shells and ochres, and back in time to the 1800’s Australian Gold Rush.

Students have been writing about their own treasures and why they are precious to them, and we've been exploring the differences between bartering and buying. We’ve begun to link this in with current Australian currency by recognising and classifying coins and identifying their different values.

2/3S have been practising the songs ‘Lanterns on the Banksia Tree’, ‘Oh how lovely is the evening’ and ‘As I walk into Darkness’ in preparation for our Winter Solstice celebrations next month. Students have created some beautiful artworks of the lantern walk to come. We’ll be creating lanterns for the Winter Solstice in class.

In Literacy, students have been focusing on editing their own writing and peer editing. They’ve been providing each other with fantastic feedback on their writing!

In Mathematics, students have been exploring patterns with large interactive 100s charts. We’ve also been focusing on addition with two- and three-digit numbers using the column strategy and the partition/split strategy.
