Celebrating our Cross Country Champions!

Last Wednesday, our students Isla Smith, Florence Thompson Jolley, Paxton Glover, and Claude Keal proudly represented Newlands Primary School at the Cross Country Divisions held at Banyule Flat Reserve. They all performed incredibly, demonstrating outstanding effort and resilience against many other competitors.

Firstly, I would like to share Isla Smith's experience in the race with you all. Isla had a strong start in the run, looking very confident. When another student from a different school struggled to keep running, Isla stopped and went to find an adult nearby to help her, showing immense care and empathy. This moment perfectly embodies the values of Newlands Primary School. While achieving learning goals is important, our school values always come first. Isla found a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate care and responsibility in a challenging environment filled with kids and parents from various communities. We are all very proud of her. Isla completed the run and said it was a great experience. Well done, Isla!

Claude Keal, from Year 6, had a fantastic performance, showing determination and great stamina to finish in the top twenty. This is a remarkable achievement, and we all congratulate Claude for his tremendous effort.

A big shout-out to Florence Thompson Jolley and Paxton Glover, who finished 10th and 8th in their respective categories. This is more than just an achievement; it was incredible to see them pushing themselves really hard to stay in the top ten. Their determination and hard work have paid off, as they have both qualified for Regionals. Florence and Paxton, your accomplishments are truly inspiring, and we are so proud of you!

Paxton and Florence have been Cross Country champions since they were very young. Here is a photo that proves it! We are very grateful that they have found running as a way to maintain a healthy body and mind, and we hope they will continue to embrace this in the future.

Congratulations to Isla, Claude, Florence, and Paxton. You are excellent role models for all of us at Newlands. We are very proud to have you as part of our community and wish you all the best for Regionals!

Yours faithfully,
