Reconciliation Week
Reconciliation Week
The theme for Reconciliation Week 2024, Now More Than Ever, it is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue.
Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about the truth of our Australian history, the depth of our First Nations cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia with First Nations peoples and communities.
We have been exploring what reconciliation week is through involvement in a variety of classroom and whole school learning experiences.
Our student wellbeing team led our major celebration on Wednesday 29th May.
We encouraged everyone to wear red, black and yellow, created a mural out of chalk representing Aboriginal symbols in the quadrangle both before school and during recess breaks, had Aboriginals dream time stories read to us and participated in a community 'Smoking Ceremonywith Trevor Gallagher.
I would like to thank Kinta, Abigail, Nadia and Eva and our assembly leaders who set up the sound system for us. Simon for sharing stories at lunchtime and all teachers who supported our learning.
We collected donations to go towards the purchasing of a Acknowledgement of Country sign to go at the front of our new building. We will keep the collection tin at the office for the next week if you would like to make a contribution.
