Maths
Throughout the last few weeks in Maths, students have been exploring fractions and decimals. They have been learning how to solve fraction problems using the four operations. In addition, they have been turning fractions into decimals and back again.
Before lessons, we have been teaching the students a range of Maths games that focus on number sense. One of our favourite games is called Buzz. Students practise their multiplication sums in this fun game which involves students working in a team to beat the clock. Students stand in a circle and count up by one. Everytime they get to a multiple of a chosen number, they need to replace it with the word “Buzz!”
Excursion
Last Friday, the students travelled by tram on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum.
With a special focus on sustainability, students participated in a workshop focusing on Climate Change and participated in small group rotations.
Students also had the opportunity to visit the IMAX theatre where they watched a movie called Extreme Weather. The movie focused on forest fires, cyclones, and icebergs. This enhanced their understanding of the impact of climate change.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who supported the students and staff throughout the day. Your involvement made this educational excursion a memorable and enriching experience for everyone involved.
Sport
Wishing Sara and Maggie best of luck in Regional Cross Country this Thursday.
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been looking at the Science of Reading. Students have been enjoying this new approach which has a big focus on revision and moving things from our short term memory into long term memory.
Over the past few weeks, students have been learning about information reports, and how to make interesting presentations with a focus on visuals. They did a fun activity last week where they had thirty minutes to put together a presentation on a chosen animal. The aim was to use visuals to make the presentation stand out and look as interesting as possible. We were so impressed with what the groups were able to create in such a short amount of time.
