Grade 4 Community News

Hello Grade 4 students and families, we are already halfway into term 2 and we have achieved so much already! It is fantastic to see students continue to demonstrate responsibility for their learning and growth to achieve their goals.

4F – Ms Stafford

Hi, my name is Ms Stafford and I teach 4F. This is my first official year of teaching a classroom and I have been enjoying every minute of it! I have a border collie her name is Leni. We love going for strolls to the park and hanging out at the beach! I can’t wait to see the continued growth being made in grade 4.

Reading

In Reading we have started our new unit about the Chinese Dynasties, which follows several dynasties throughout the years. It is a complex history characterised by the rise and fall of various rulers. Students look at timelines and make predictions and connections from previous learning. The Grade 4s have been enjoying reading the book ‘Dragonkeeper’ as a class, which connects with our current learning and will continue to add connections throughout the term.

Writing

In our Writing to Learn unit, we have started planning our Imaginative Narratives, focusing on language features and structure to meet the purpose of the text. By language features, we can hook our readers in and make our writing more engaging! We have created a Bump it Up wall for students to self-assess their writing, improve on any areas they want to work on and create a writing goal.

Maths

In Maths, we have started our unit focused on length. We have been measuring different objects around our classroom and outside in the yard. Students have been enjoying comparing the sizes and lengths of different objects and making their predictions to see how close they were at estimating. We have also been converting between units of measurement. Families, please practise the times tables at home with your child to improve their fluency with this skill. This will assist them with other units of numeracy and reduce their mental load when making calculations! We encourage all students to practise these daily to boost their confidence.

Reminders:

  • Narana Excursion: please speak to your teacher or visit Compass to confirm which day your students are attending.
  • Please remember to practise your multiplication every night.
