Grade 2 Community News

Dear Grade 2 Families,

Wow, what a busy term we have had so far, with so many awesome learning opportunities!

Swimming

Students have loved getting involved in their swimming lessons at our local Bright Waves pool. It has been great to see their confidence grow in the water as the week progresses. This is an extremely valuable life skill that our students will be able to continue to build on through their time at Tarneit Rise.

Writing

We have seen some excellent pieces of historical recount writing about life in Ancient Greece. Make sure you ask your children what they have learnt about Ancient Greece - you may learn a thing or too as well! We are now focusing on creating narrative pieces of writing (made up stories), where the students can let their imagination run wild in creating a story that includes a problem and a resolution.

Maths

Students have continued to expand on their learning about shapes, looking at the features of 3D shapes and the technical terms for these (vertices, faces, and edges). Last week, we learnt about how shapes can be transformed using slides, flips and turns. This week we are learning all about chance.

Check out these incredible shape robots some of our students created!

Reading

Over the past fortnight, we have wrapped up our learning about Ancient Greece, and we are now moving into our core texts for the term: ‘Fire’ and ‘Flood’, based on Australian natural disasters. Our students are learning to analyse key elements in a text, such as the setting, characters, and other features that support meaning in the text.

Vocabulary

Through our serial text this term Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, students have been exposed to a range of rich vocab that we have been able to incorporate into our weekly vocabulary lessons. Have a look below at some of the words your child has been learning about.

Reminders

  • Please ensure you are continuing to support your child in getting to school by 8:45am, so that they are not missing any valuable learning time (and can reach their attendance reward goals!)
  • The weather is getting colder, so please make sure your child is coming to school with their Tarneit Rise jumper or jacket.
  • Term 2 and 3 students are not required to wear hats so please keep these at home until Term 4
