District Football
On Wednesday the 15th of May our senior footballers represented Ballan Primary School at the District Football Competition in Alfredton. 21 of our grade 5/6 students (with a few supporting players from grade 4) travelled to a sunny Ballarat to face Lucas, Newington and Mt Clear in our pool of matches. Ballan Primary were victorious in all three of their pool matches with superb sportsmanship and teamwork across the day. After drawing Pleasant Street Primary in our semi-final, Ballan started the match strongly, kicking the first goal and looked headed for a grand final berth. Pleasant St were able to fight back however and ran out winners in the end. It was wonderful to see the effort across the day and the team were surely lifted by the fantastic support from the group of parents and siblings who attended to cheer them on. Our school community clearly has a great spirit. A huge thank you to Marcus Murrell for his tireless work organising all of our sporting events and his direction on the day and to Miss Stacey for her help with first aid and team management. A big shout out also to our parent helpers, in particular, Kylie Fenwick, Justin Fenwick, Anna Shelton, Claire Adam and Marlee Batten for assistance with equipment, umpiring, scoring and team spirit! This is the second successive year I have been fortunate enough to coach our footballers and, while I doubt the AFL will be calling me anytime soon, I loved the opportunity to support our students to display their skill and determination on the footy field. Well done boys!

Middle Years
Our excursion to the Geelong Gaol is coming up on Monday the 27th of May. The gaol is home to The National Crime and Justice Museum and features displays and information about Australia’s crime and justice history. Costumed guides, playing a character from the gaol’s history, will guide us through the gaol as we ‘walk in the footsteps of our convict past’.
After our visit to the gaol, we will be walking down to Eastern Beach to have our lunch and a play before the buses come to take us home.
This excursion is an immersive learning opportunity relating to our 1st Contact MAPPEN unit. It is also an opportunity for students to demonstrate our school values through their absolute best behaviour, out in public.
XUNO notes have been sent home; please make sure parental permission and payment has been completed. Reach out if you have any questions.
Junior Team
Last Thursday, the Preps, Ones and Twos were placed in mixed groups and had the opportunity to spend the last session of the day with Mrs Mauriks, Mr Ross, Mr Moneghetti, Mrs Griffith or Miss Harney as part of a rotational program.
This will be happening on Thursdays in our even weeks and is an opportunity for the students and teachers to get to know each other a little better in a fun and interactive environment.
The feedback from students and teachers was overwhelmingly positive and we are all looking forward to next weeks session! The rotations include: fine motor, technology, dance, STEM and craft.
Division Cross Country
Last Friday 10th May we had 19 students represent our school in Division Cross Country against a large range of schools from across the Ballarat Region. On a tight, winding course at Ballarat High, athletes performed extremely well, all completing the course and in good time. They were up against some high-quality athletes and should all be proud of their efforts! Thank you to Miss Lisa, Phoebe and all families who could attend, in assisting and supporting our students.

Western Bulldogs Football Clinic
On Wednesday 8th May, Jonah from the Western Bulldogs, came to our school to conduct a series of free football clinics. He taught students how to handball and kick. We also played several mini games including Snap and Robber Nest. We also received several new footballs, a competition flyer and backpacks.
