Empowering Student Research: A Day of Collaboration and Innovation

The LRC team recently embarked on a professional development day, venturing to Northcote High for the Accessit Roadshow.  Accessit, the library management system that underpins our daily operations in the LRC, unveiled exciting updates designed to optimize student engagement with the library catalogue. The Accessit team, Karen, Brett, and Steven, provided a wealth of knowledge on how to leverage these updates to empower students as active researchers.

Diana Blyton and Richard Smallcombe of Northcote High School extended a warm welcome, offering valuable insights into how their library utilizes the LMS and fosters student engagement.  This exchange provided a unique perspective on best practices within the high school library setting.

Following this enriching session, we travelled to Knox City Shopping Centre and connected with Manager Alan Sewell from Knox Library. He led us on a captivating tour of the new public library at the shopping centre, showing us how the new space was utilised for young and old library users. We were particularly inspired by their dedication to fostering community and youth engagement through a dedicated youth services hub. This visit ignited exciting possibilities for collaboration between our school library and the public library – stay tuned for future developments!

A great day with teams at Northcote High, Accessit and Your Library at Knox for this enriching day that fuelled our commitment to student digital literacy and research success.

Reconciliation/Sorry Day

National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June. It was a time to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and explore how each of us could contribute to achieving reconciliation.

At our college, students were taught about Sorry Day and Reconciliation. Our Year 7 & 8 SWEL classes created "Sea of " artwork to support their learning. These handprints were integrated into an informative and interactive display created by the LRC staff.

Gratitude Wall

The LRC buzzed as students streamed in, each clutching a paper flower. Vibrant markers and creative designs transformed the blank templates into a display of gratitude. Arriving at the LRC, the students found their designated house section of the gratitude wall. With a flurry of activity and excited chatter, they carefully placed their flowers around the vases, collaborating to create a visually captivating display. The space is again bursting with colour and heartfelt messages, a testament to the students' appreciation and a lively addition to the LIB1 space.

With thanks to Mrs Dharmasena for organising the SWEL event.
