Principal's News

Pauline Cutajar

Last Friday 31 May, I had the privilege of attending the GSV Championship Cross Country at Cruden Farm, Langwarrin. It was such a wonderful day for a variety of reasons. First of all, it was a joy seeing so many active girls from an abundance of girls’ schools, challenging themselves to compete in and complete such a challenging cross-country course. It is apparent to me that this kind of dedication and discipline is more than just a physical activity; it is often a transformative experience that helps shapes character and builds resilience. As we know, cross country running is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one. The sport requires perseverance, determination, and the ability to push through discomfort. These experiences are invaluable in teaching girls how to set goals, work towards them, and overcome obstacles.

I am so proud of the 9 Shelford students who competed so admirably on the day.

As you will read in Stephanie D’s article later in the newsletter, during the senior presentation, GSV also announced the introduction of the Shelford Shield, as a way of honouring the incredible contribution and participation over the years of our wonderful School. As Elisabeth Rhodes, Principal of Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar School said when reflecting on Shelford, “……..we are going to miss you and we will never forget you.” How wonderful that the Shelford Shield will be presented in perpetuity to the fastest 4km runner.

Bayspeak Public Speaking Competition Final

Olivia B., one of our Year 7 students, competed in the Bayspeak Public Speaking Competition Final, held at Firbank Grammar School last Tuesday 4 June. Olivia competed in the junior category against Year 7, 8 and 9 students, ultimately securing an impressive second place overall. The Bayspeak Public Speaking Competition is open to students in secondary schooling around the Bayside region of Victoria and requires participants to craft and deliver speeches on issues they are passionate about. As Olivia was the runner up in this final, she is invited to compete in the next round at Parliament House. Congratulations Olivia on this outstanding achievement, wishing you all the best as you proceed to the next round.
