Mark Alexander - Sports & House Activities

Plenty of Sport so far at St Johns. At the end of the Term 1 we finished with the House Cross Country. Selected students were asked to complete the 2.3km run and it was Delphinus and Leonis who claimed overall victory beating Columba in third place. The top runners were invited to participate in the SIS Cross Country which was held in May at Casey Fields. The participants at the SIS Cross Country should be very proud of their efforts. Well done to Kelemen Dominic (Leonis) who claimed 3rd overall for his age group.

At the beginning of the term ALL students travelled to Casey Fields to participate in the House Athletics day. On an overcast day, it was great to see so many students getting involved in all sorts of activities. Unfortunately, the High Jump was cancelled due to rain (during PE classes in Term 3, we will be able to find the best in each year level), but all other events, incluidng running (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m), long jump and shot put went very well. Columba House managed to claim the victory on the day, making House Leader Ms Sonia McNally very proud and emotional.

Other activities included a Primary School Soccer Gala Day which was held at St John's. Numerous primary schools were invited to play in a soccer tournament for the Paul Wade Cup. The SIS Swimming squad after many weeks of training in Term 1 competed in the SIS Swimming Carnival at MSAC. St John’s came third overall which was a fantastic result and the swimmers should be proud of their efforts with many claiming a ribbon of some sought.

Weekly sport was also happening with all year levels getting a chance to show off their skills throughout the term. A big thankyou to the coaches who helped out this term: Ms Teagan Yates (Snr Girls Volleyball), Mr Nigel Adkin (Jnr Boys Volleyball and Intermediate Boys Volleyball), Mr Tim Swan (Jnr Boys Soccer), Mr Daniel Papadakis (Jnr Girls Soccer), Ms Emily Blake (Jnr Girls Netball) and Mr Mark Alexander (Senior Boys Volleyball). The season is still going and some pennants will possibly be up for grabs for a few teams.

The Inter-homeroom Volleyball competition also continues this term with the Grand Final to be held on the last day of term. We are down to the final four homerooms: DE1, DE2, DE5 and CO2. Good Luck to all.

Look out for more sport opportunities coming in Term 3.
