Mid-Year Reflections

As we approach the school mid-year, it is a good time to reflect on the first Semester of school from the beginning of February, until now, the end of May.

  • What were your hopes for your young person as they began the school year?
  • Did you have any fears or worries for them as they started the 2024 school year?
  • Has the school lived up to your expectations?
  • Is your young person settled and happy?
  • How have they grown and developed as maturing young people?
  • Do you feel you have supported them well and given them the time they need?
  • What have you learnt as a parent/guardian of an adolescent?
  • Could you name three strengths you have seen emerge this year in your young person?
  • What about yourself – what are your greatest strengths as a parent/guardian?
  • Have you the confidence to address any problems getting in the way of your young person being happy and settled at school?

In the Wellbeing team we support students, staff and families. Much of the focus is addressing issues and challenges that prevent the young person from accessing what St John’s has to offer. We work together to create and to ensure education is accessible, so that every student has every opportunity to learn and thrive at school. If you find or suspect that your young person is not fully engaged in their learning for whatever reason, do not hesitate to contact us and talk about your concerns. Nothing is too minor to check out. If staff from school reach out to you, make the time to respond. Early action means better chances of finding successful solutions.

We hope the second half of the school year is a time of growth and learning for your child. And that you are proud of the job you are doing in supporting their learning and education.
