Dear Parents

Sporting News

The National Schools Event under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia was most successful.  Congratulations are extended to our Girls Volleyball Team who were crowned Champions, and in addition we had three teams finish Runners Up in this elite competition – Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball and Boys Volleyball.

All students benefitted from this sporting and cultural annual event.  I particularly enjoyed our dance troupe under the tutelage of Ms Natasha Spanos.  I commend Mr Greg Joyce and our touring staff and students for representing Oakleigh Grammar in the best possible light.

School News

I am thrilled to share some exciting news regarding the future of our school’s facilities and infrastructure.  At the Official Opening of the Oakleigh Grammar Caf last week, I announced that we have engaged Mr. Angelo Candalepas of Candalepas Associates as the new architect for Oakleigh Grammar.

Candalepas Associates is a renowned architectural firm with offices in Sydney and Melbourne, celebrated for their innovative and award-winning designs. The firm’s portfolio is impressive, encompassing a diverse range of projects in terms of scale and typology, showcasing their versatility and expertise in creating spaces that are not only functional but also aesthetically inspiring.

Mr. Candalepas himself is a highly respected figure in the architectural community, known for his visionary approach and commitment to excellence.  His work has been recognised with numerous awards, reflecting his dedication to pushing the boundaries of design and creating environments that enhance the experiences of those who use them.

His firm is currently engaged to redesign the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in Sydney as well as being appointed as the Lead Architect for the NGV in Melbourne.  Importantly, he is a practising Orthodox Christian who wishes to give back to his community and I have received great testimony from his contribution to All Saints Grammar School in Sydney.

We believe that Mr. Candalepas’ engagement will mark a significant step forward in the development of our school’s infrastructure, aligning with our vision to provide state-of-the-art facilities that support our educational mission and the holistic development of our students.

Over the coming months, Mr. Candalepas will be working with various stakeholders to understand our needs and aspirations.  This collaborative approach ensures that the final designs will be a true reflection of our values and goals as a leading community school. The Masterplan which will be developed will be a vision for the next fifty to one hundred years and it is hoped that in ensuing years we will make some staged development of facilities in favour of our students and in support of generations to come.

The engagement of Mr Candalepas as our guiding architect presents a very exciting opportunity for our school community.

School Productions

I wish to commend Ms Rebecca Bettiol and staff supporting our School Play The Wind in the Willows. As you are aware, there are three shows and the evening show on Friday 14 June has been sold out.  I am delighted that so many students within our Junior School are participating in this production.

I also commend Mr Nick Karakottas for his work with the Year 10 drama students who performed a play based on Picnic at Hanging Rock this week to an appreciative audience.

End of Term

Our term concludes for all students on Wednesday 26 June.  Our Year 12 Formal will be held on the evening of Thursday 27 June at Lincoln on Toorak and we wish them a special and memorable evening.
