Around the School

Do It For Dolly

Last Friday students and staff wore blue to raise awareness about the impact of bullying. Gold coin contributions were collected on the day, with $140 being donated to Dolly's Dream, to support anti-bullying initiatives.

Emma has beautifully captured the essence of lunchtime around the school in the photos below.

Youth Crew

It was Mount Beauty's turn to host Youth Crew last week. Youth Crew is a group of students from Tallangatta, Corryong and Mount Beauty who meet at various locations throughout the program to learn firefighting skills, among other things. All of the 2024 participants present last week were lucky to meet Board Member, Dorothy, and staff from the Mount Beauty and District Community Bank. A formal speech, where Dorothy outlined the funding commitment over previous years, and announced further financial support for the next two, was followed by morning tea. Mount Beauty Secondary College is grateful for this support in offering a fantastic program to the students.

Further Ceramics

Students are at different stages of constructing and decorating their slab vases.  Some students are drawing images on their clay vases, whilst others are putting the vase pieces together with slip. Some are forming attachments to add to their slab vases and others are glazing their vases. Mary Lou has also been in session with the students to guide them through the process.

Science

This week, our Year 7 students got a closer look at the natural world by examining water under microscopes. Guided by their science teachers, Erin Angelini and Andrew Greenfield, they learned to prepare slides and identify tiny organisms. Students were excited to discover the microscopic creatures living in our pondage.

Physical Education

On Tuesday, Years 10 -12 PE and Sport and Recreation students travelled to Tallangatta Secondary College, where Mets Performance conducted an informative session about energy systems and fitness testing. Mets travelled from Melbourne, bringing specialised equipment not available at our school. During the session, Alex completed a Wingate Test to measure his maximal anaerobic capacity and muscle power, while Madox performed a VO2 max test to evaluate his aerobic power. These assessments are valuable for VCE PE, as they provide data that can be analysed to understand its impact on different athletes. This experience is also excellent for students interested in studying exercise science.
