Principal's Report

Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers,

SCHOOL UNIFORM

The colder weather has arrived, so it is a good opportunity to ensure your child is set for winter with the correct school uniform. The winter uniform is easy – a tracksuit for boys and girls. There is also a long-sleeved t-shirt version on sale at the Uniform Hub for added warmth. Our classrooms are heated - and well-ventilated so students should take their jumper/ jacket off, only to put it back on when leaving the classroom.

MOTHER’S DAY STALL

I’m hoping all our mums had a wonderful Mother’s Day a few Sundays ago. The children enjoyed purchasing the range of gifts on offer. A big thank you to our parent volunteers, led by Miss Michelle and Miss Samira for setting up and selling items over the two days. Without our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to have these special days at Fairvale. Thank you all so much!

SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

On Wednesday 22 May, we had the privilege of hosting six Education Support Staff who are employed by the department of education, but not based in a school. Their duties include analysing data and research which is then distributed to schools to use, often connected to teaching and learning. The visit allowed the staff to gain a better understanding of the processes and procedures that occur daily within the school environment. The team visited classrooms, specialist groups, professional learning, the community hub, music, IT, library and administration. Our student leaders accompanied our visitors around the school. At the end of the day, the team were lucky enough to receive some of Frankie’s yummy green frogs to say thank you. A big congratulations to everyone for their support in assuring the day was a successful one.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME 2024

Our school participated in National Simultaneous Story time with a focus on ‘Bowerbird Blue’ by Aura Parker. Students engaged in various activities inspired by the story, including creating artworks and re-enacting scenes. The day brought a sense of community and appreciation for storytelling. We thank the library Project team, students and staff for their hard work and participation. Further whole-school experiences continue with National Reconciliation Week. This Friday students will be learning more about Sorry Day at assembly and then will complete activities in class during the week. I would also like to thank Mrs Bawa, our school librarian, for the wonderful book displays she has created for these two events.

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

Over the last fortnight I visited K HIGGINS and 4 NANCE.

K HIGGINS – On Wednesday I visited KH during a writing lesson. It was so exciting to see everyone doing their best work. Children helped Miss Higgins write her sentence, before moving back to their tables to write their own sentence. I was lucky enough to have my own group to work with. Children did a great job and were even able to use a conjunction to make their sentence more interesting. It was even more pleasing to see children read their sentence to me and each other. I had a great time in KH. Well done everyone!

4 NANCE – Last Wednesday morning I visited 4N during a reading lesson. Students were ready and keen to continue some of the learning they covered in the previous lesson. The class participated in a choral read, practising their fluency as they gained more information about the text. After this, everyone had to highlight a word that they did not know the meaning and return to their desks to work on strategies to assist them. These strategies included finding the definition using a dictionary and then being able to share an example to demonstrate their understanding. It was a great lesson in 4N!

REPEATED: ROAD SAFETY

We must all remember the importance of safe road safety practices. I understand that people are busy and need to be places, but I suggest families need to plan their trip to and from school each day. This will ensure the drop off and pick up is a safe one for everyone. Please consider using Wolseley Street (although very busy) as it has a designated ’Kiss and Drop’ zone every day. Ensure that you follow the road rules; fines are expensive and almost always occur due to one wrong decision. Our roads are monitored frequently. I have included a list of road rules around school zones and safety tips for everyone. I do not want any of our families to cop a fine; it is simply not worth it.

Have a great fortnight.
