We are learning to use characteristics of genre as a source of information to make predictions.

VOCABULARY

Prediction: an educated guess about what is going to happen in the text.

Content: the subject or ideas in something written or represented.

Genre: a type of book e.g. science fiction, realistic fiction, non-fiction. 

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Read a text with your child, get them to make predictions about the text as they are reading. 

Ask them to justify with evidence from the text using content knowledge, personal experience and connections to similar texts. 

What type of genre is it? How did you know?  

As they read the text, get your child to decide whether their prediction has been confirmed or changed.
