Grade 6 Report

Move over Doctor Frankenstein, the Grade 6 children have been hard at work using natural selection and the adaptation process to create new species of living organisms. The classrooms are full of new carnivores, herbivores and even deadly diseases and new types of plants. By this time next week, we’ll all be putting on our best David Attenborough voices and presenting our findings to our classes.

Here are some examples of the species our students have created:

  • My species is called the Mountain Drott, it has big claws to help climb mountains and a second stomach so it can store food inside it - Bob
  • The Batmal is an atmospheric creature thats belly inflates to help it fly, it has a long tail to strangle its prey and only 59% of people have spotted it in their lifetimes - Simonette
  • The Chidnaroo lives in the bushland. It eats spiders, critters and lots of grass. It has sharp claws to help it fight its prey and large hind legs to jump and run fast - Lachlan
  • My animal is a Mosca which means ‘fly’ in Spanish. It’s a beetle cross fly and its scientific name is Modjijcijcdkdcjdcijsca. Moscas are very territorial and will fight each other for their home. They sleep throughout the winter and wake up in summer when it’s humid - Oriana
  • The Bulladillo has six legs, it can run at breakneck speed, its horns are as strong as steel and it has thick armour plating to protect it from desert storms and hippopotamuses because they are big rivals - Felix
